Kennedy Redford were appointed by MAC Consulting on behalf of Redditch Borough Council to provide MEP design engineering for the redevelopment works at the existing Redditch Town Hall Building.

Working from the initial concept stage with AEW Architects and Civic civil and structural engineers, Kennedy Redford are currently working up the latter stages of a RIBA Stage 4 design, with the scheme due to start on site early 2024.

The scheme is a complex redevelopment of a 1980 office building, to create new workspace areas for the Department for Work and Pensions and new Council offices space, including a reconfigured 140 seat Council Chambers, and a new Public Library within part refurbishment of the existing building. The demise line demarcation is particularly challenging, with the floorplan in scope encompassing lower ground, part ground, part first and part second floor levels and with further tenancy occupation outside of demarked scope on the floor level above.

A complex and demanding design has stretched the servicing potential of the existing building to incorporate two extension sections and central plant that is mostly being kept in-situ, but stripped and refurbished to deliver the required duties for the operational change. The challenging refurbishment needs to be completed whilst  maintaining operation of the existing tenants within the building.
