Pedro Vicente
Technical Director

Pedro Vicente

Pedro left Portugal in 2007 to start his career in civil engineering at Cundall. He was initially employed as a Civil Engineering Technician working alongside Geoff Carter and Rob Kennedy in Manchester. In 2008 Pedro enrolled on a part time BEng (Hons) Civil Engineering at the University of Salford. During his time at Cundall, Pedro worked on residential and retail projects but was primarily involved in the education sector supporting the Building Schools for the Future programme. During this time, Pedro developed a keen interest in sustainable drainage and flooding matters leading to him focusing on this topic for his final year dissertation.

In 2010 Pedro joined Martin Stockley Associates in Manchester as a Civil Engineering Technician. He continued to work on residential schemes such as the Gateway to Oldham PFI, where he gained first-hand knowledge of highways and public realm projects. Pedro completed his degree training in 2012 and continued to work at Martin Shockley Associates as a Project Engineer before joining Sinclair Knight Merz in 2013 where became involved in rail projects working for Network Rail and London Underground, and stadia design working on the Anfield Main Stand project.

Shortly after the acquisition of Sinclair Knight Merz by Jacobs in 2014, Pedro joined Royal Haskoning DHV as a Senior Engineer. Over the course of the next eight years, Pedro progressed to become an Associate Director of the design team. During this period, he developed as an infrastructure engineer whilst working on highways, commercial, residential, maritime and land reclamation projects in the UK and overseas. The exposure to international work across the globe meant Pedro obtained a wider breadth of knowledge in infrastructure design, developing expertise in surface water management and sustainable drainage application. This led to Pedro’s involvement in Development Consent Order (DCO) Applications for renewable energy schemes and Heathrow’s Airport third runway for Arora where he was an advisor on drainage and infrastructure.

In 2022 Pedro was invited to join Kennedy Redford as Director of Civil Engineering and he continues to grow the team with Dan Bradley whilst expanding our capability to deliver major infrastructure projects. During his brief time with Kennedy Redford, Pedro has drawn on his prior knowledge of international projects and has led the delivery of several district drainage networks in the Middle East. He is very much involved in day-to-day project delivery whilst remaining focused on building a strong civils team that can support and grow the Kennedy Redford business.

Outside of Kennedy Redford, Pedro enjoys cycling and hiking and he frequently spends time unwinding in the Peak District. He is an authority on fine wines (usually Portuguese) and is a self-styled DIY enthusiast. His most recent project involved the design and construction of an outdoor kitchen, complete with a bespoke fabricated Portuguese style wood rack and grill. He is also the recipient of the Best Beard award at Kennedy Redford.

Director

Rob Kennedy

Rob began his career in 1992 as a ground worker and labourer in his dad's small family business. During this period, Rob also attended St Helens Technical College, studying an NVQ in Construction and the Built Environment. In 1997, Rob joined HM Armed Forces as a Royal Engineer and was actively involved in the mobility, counter mobility, and survivability of the British Army. When serving in the military, Rob was deployed on operational tours across the globe whilst also continuing his academic studies, obtaining his HNC in Building Studies in 2001. In 2006, Rob left the military and after a brief time working as a construction manager for Seddon, he joined Cundall's Manchester team as a Civil Engineering Technician. During his time at Cundall, Rob continued to progress with his academic studies and completed a part time BSc in Civil Engineering in 2012. In 2015, Rob transferred from Manchester to join the Cundall team in Qatar as Technical Director of Civil Engineering. In 2019 Rob left the Middle East to form Kennedy Redford with his former colleague Corrie Duncan. Rob remains a director of Kennedy Redford and actively involves himself with the daily running of the business alongside his fellow members of the board.

Rob is particularly interested in the implementation of practical civil engineering solutions and the re-use of materials to positively influence the cost plan. He is also a keen advocate of safety in construction and his final year dissertation focussed on the Health and Safety challenges our industry faces, with particular focus on Zero Harm policy. Rob has worked across a wide range of industries, but he is particularly experienced in the manufacturing, industrial and waste management/EfW sectors. In his time as a design consultant, Rob has worked in permanent, site-based roles on major infrastructure projects internationally, in addition to the more traditional office-based consultancy role.

Outside of Kennedy Redford, Rob enjoys spending time in the outdoors and is an enthusiastic forager and cook. He also has an unhealthy obsession with WWII and geopolitics. In his military life, Rob was a keen sportsman, representing his unit in rugby, distance running and orienteering at Garrison level. Post military, Rob was a keen fell runner and endurance athlete. He has competed in most of the UK’s Mountain Marathons and is a proud member of the Bob Graham Club following his successful 2010 completion of running 42 Lakeland peaks in under 24 hours. In 2011 Rob became the fifth person to run the full length of the West Highland Way in winter conditions. He is also the recipient of two international military commendations for distinguished service in an operational theatre.
