Kennedy Redford were appointed by MPH Construction for civil and structural RIBA 5 design services for the construction of a new whisky micro distillery and visitors centre in Llandudno.

The development comprised the refurbishment of a Grade II listed former schoolhouse, in addition to a contemporary steel framed extension to the rear of the development.

Following appointment, the scheme underwent significant re-design of the drainage strategy and structural frame to ensure the architectural vision could be achieved, as well as ensuring environmental constraints relating to trade effluent discharge could be managed sustainably.

In order to meet with the environmental constraints concerning trade effluent derived from the distillation process, Kennedy Redford developed a strategy that enabled the collection of raw distillate for use in the anaerobic digestion process.  This had the benefit of avoiding pollution to the local foul sewer network, eliminating costs for the discharge of effluent typical of more traditional methods, whilst also converting a waste product into a feedstock for the production of energy.

Kennedy Redford also re developed the surface water design to a full infiltration system which reduced the demand on Natural Resource Wales surface water system. In 2021, the scheme was shortlisted for a Civic Trust award.

We offer a range of services across various sectors, covering all stages of the project lifecycle. From feasibility and pre-concept to operations and maintenance.
